Visit Lille

Have you ever considered a trip to Lille? Why would you consider a trip to Lille? Well for a start, Lille is just under one hour’s drive from the ferry terminal at Dunkirk in France and it is just around one and a half hours from London by train on Eurostar right into the center of Lille – So accessibility is one thing in Lille’s favor.

Geographically, Lille is situated on the river Deule River in Northern France close to the Belgium border and in French Flanders, as it is sometimes referred.

Lille is a modern city with excellent transport options, its own underground system and a number of parks and rides available with both metro and bus access.

If you are traveling in a motorhome, during the day it is relatively easy to park your ‘camping car’ on the Boulevard Vauban. There are campsites open all year on the outskirts of Lille with reasonable access by public transport into Lille by bus and train. Buying a Lille City Pass offers reduced travel on public transport on a one day, two day or 72 hour pass and free entry to a number of visitor attractions, museums and the hourly Lille City Tour by minibus.

The Lille City Tour is a one hour minibus tour around the major historic sights and architecture in Lille. There is commentary available and the day we did the tour it was wet and miserable so it gave us a chance to dry out a little and see more of Lille and understand more of Lille’s history that we would otherwise have done on foot.

There are events in Lille throughout the year but I would certainly recommend Lille’s Christmas market. Small by comparison to many German Christmas markets, Lille’s is still worth a visit.
